Having always been enchanted by the idea of Peter Pan, I recently came to wonder what it would be like if Peter were to grow just a little older, during modern times. Perhaps aging into his mid 20's. In the past, there were the lost boys. In today’s world, there are many people who society has forgotten. How might Peter react to such a shift in perspective? It was then that I had the original idea for a television series that would explore just this situation. Wanting to do my homework, however, I went back and read the original Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie. Suddenly, my original idea became immensely enhanced by character driven concepts taken directly from the book itself in a way that no film or play has ever done. In addition to individual episodes that would be sometimes warm, sometimes hard hitting, and sometimes even action-packed, there would be several more series-long plot threads involving Peter’s character and how he reconciles his bloody past with his confused present and hopeful future. Other plot threads would involve the handful of new characters brought into Peter’s life. The series would take place in modern world locations, as well as Neverland, where Peter and the other main characters would remain based. With the success of the Universal Pictures/Columbia Pictures/Revolution Studios film, “Peter Pan”, and the Oscar award winning “Finding Neverland”, Peter Pan continues to be a proven and time tested property of interest. This, coupled with the completely fresh yet loyal-to-the-original-book approach for the series such as I envision it, will in my opinion, create a product vastly appealing to multiple demographics, yet not for anyone too young for PG-13. In addition, the overwhelming success of ABC’s “Lost” has finally proven that viewers will watch a weekly, hour-long fantasy based drama.
ONE-LINE PITCH
In a world that has passed him by, and having been thirteen for over two hundred years, how hard would it really be for Pan to become a man?
As stated, the 2-hour pilot episode screenplay is completed and ready for review by any interested agent or producer. Also, I have plotted the story through four seasons. I'd be happy to hear from you if you are interested.
